Introduction
I recently visited the Mookata & Jim Jum restaurant “Nong Khai Jim Chum” located about a 34-minute walk from BTS Ekkamai Station, and I’m here to share my review.
About the Isaan restaurant “Nong Khai Jim Chum” in Ekkamai
Nong Khai Jim Chum, a popular Mookata and Jim Jum restaurant among Thais, is located about a 34-minute walk from BTS Ekkamai Station. Since it’s a bit far from the station, I recommend taking a taxi or tuk-tuk.
Nong Khai Jim Chum seems to have started as a local favorite for Thais, but in recent years, it has seen an increase in Japanese and other international visitors. (When I visited, there were only what appeared to be Thai customers.)
The main building indicated on the map does not have air conditioning. However, the new building across the street is equipped with air conditioning and numerous fans, making it a more comfortable option, especially if you have children.
While the menu might be tailored for Thai customers, the menu I received was bilingual, featuring Thai, English, and Chinese. Regarding the restrooms, Google Maps reviews suggest they may lack toilet paper and aren’t always clean, so be prepared.

I ordered the “Jim Jum Set (Pork)” for 190B. Like the Jim Jum at “Laab Lab Lab” and the rich chicken soup at “Isaan Bar & Restaurant,” the soup here is incredibly flavorful. I wonder what kind of broth it is? It has a complex taste, combining the richness of meat with the aroma of herbs – I absolutely love it. The pork at Nong Khai was exceptionally tender; I’m curious how they prepared it. While I wished the soup was a bit richer, it was still delicious. To finish, I had Mama instant noodles. They kindly refilled the soup as needed, so don’t hesitate to ask for more.
I also tried the “Pork Fried Rice” for 55B. It was fluffy, packed with ingredients, and very tasty. Thai fried rice often includes tomatoes, and I’m starting to get addicted to that unique tanginess.
The “Thai Omelet” was 55B. I’m a big fan of Thai omelets!
For drinks, I had a large bottle of Singha beer for 95B and a 1-liter Coke for 40B. A large Chang beer was 80B.
As the name suggests, Nong Khai Jim Chum is known for its delicious Jim Jum, but Mookata is actually their signature dish. This review doesn’t include Mookata, so please look forward to that in a future post!
