Introduction
I recently visited the Japanese restaurant “Washoku Aji” (和食 庵寺) located about an 11-minute walk from BTS Ekkamai Station, and I’m here to share my review.
About the Japanese restaurant “Washoku Aji” in Ekkamai
Washoku Aji is a Japanese restaurant situated approximately an 11-minute walk from BTS Ekkamai Station. It’s located on the 3rd floor of the shopping mall housing Big C, along Ekkamai Road (Sukhumvit Soi 63). Washoku Aji is the flagship store of the Aji Group. Within the same mall, you can find Chicken Kay on the 1st floor, and Gohandokoro Aji on the 2nd floor of Fuji Super 2 on Sukhumvit Soi 39. I’ve visited Chicken Kay several times as it’s affordable, offers great value, and is suitable for banquets.
Washoku Aji offers a diverse menu of Japanese dishes, with a particular specialty in tuna. A life-sized replica of a bluefin tuna hangs at the storefront. The seafood is directly imported from Japan, and the tuna is reportedly fresh bluefin tuna. The interior is very spacious, capable of seating over 200 people. Private tatami seating rooms are also available.

“Washoku Aji” Menu (Photos, Prices, and Review)
On this particular day, there was a weekday lunch promotion offering the Special Sushi Lunch, usually priced at 800B++, for an incredible 380B++! As this seemed like a rare promotion, I’ll review it based on its usual price.
The “Special Sushi Lunch (800B++)” included 10 pieces of sushi, 2 pieces of maki rolls, a small side dish, pickles, miso soup, and dessert (vanilla ice cream). Tasting it, it was indeed delicious. As expected from their specialty, the tuna was fresh and of excellent quality. The medium fatty tuna melted in my mouth.
However, 800B++ is approximately 4500 yen. This is the price for lunch at a high-end sushi restaurant. While it was tasty, I felt it was a bit too expensive for a Japanese restaurant. For reference, the Grilled Mackerel, which I didn’t try, was priced at 280B++ (about 1600 yen). Overall, it seems to be a high-end establishment. However, with Chicken Kay located on the first floor, I believe Aji operates with a premium strategy while Chicken Kay focuses on high value for money, creating a clear distinction between the two.

Recommendation Score for “Washoku Aji”
To be helpful, I’ll assign a score based on the Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site) rating system. For the Japanese restaurant “Washoku Aji” in Ekkamai, I personally estimate it to be around a 3.1 on Tabelog. I’ll note this down here.
The delicious tuna and the sophisticated tatami rooms suitable for business entertainment are strong points. On the other hand, based on the Special Sushi Lunch and Grilled Mackerel prices, I found it too expensive for casual dining.
Conclusion
The Japanese restaurant “Washoku Aji” in Ekkamai is recommended for those who want to enjoy tuna or for business entertainment purposes.
