Introduction

I recently visited the Spanish bar “El Mercado Calle 35” located about a 5-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. I’d like to share my review.

About the stylish Spanish bar “El Mercado Calle 35” in Phrom Phong

El Mercado Calle 35 is situated approximately a 5-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. Please note that there is also a main El Mercado branch near Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station, and searching for “El Mercado” might lead you there instead.

El Mercado Calle 35 is located within the premises of Fuji Super 1. It’s on the side street connecting Soi 33/1 and Soi 35, alongside “Ko-chan Ramen,” “Hatake Coffee,” “Kashiya,” and “Kruathai Shokudo.”

This time, I was invited to a ladies’ get-together and went for a morning visit! I was excited to hear that I could enjoy wine with delicious cold cuts as appetizers. While it’s a bit pricey, it’s a great option for occasional special events. ^^

It was a Spanish bar with a great atmosphere, exuding sophistication and style. Incidentally, there seems to be a kids’ space on the second floor, making it a good choice for those with young children.

Menu at “El Mercado Calle 35” (Photos, Prices, and Reviews)

We immediately decided on the “Fig with Foie Gras, 1 pc – 290 THB+” which the ladies highly recommended. We also ordered the “Brie Cheese with Truffles, 100g – 298 THB+” and “Salami with Truffles, 80g – 529 THB+” from the cold cuts to share. We also got the “Morning Set (Healthy) – 429 THB+” which came with plenty of vegetables. It was a single plate with avocado, quinoa, asparagus, tomatoes, hummus, and apple, enough for about two people. It also included a giant croissant, a drink, and yogurt. The morning set is a great deal!

Tasting it… The foie gras and fig combination is incredible! As you can see from the cross-section photo, the foie gras is perfectly nestled inside the fig. It’s stained red from being soaked in red wine, so it’s a natural pairing with wine. The rich flavor of the foie gras with the fruity sweetness of the fig was exquisite! I wonder if this is a traditional Spanish dish? The person who came up with this combination is a genius.

The truffle brie cheese and salami were also wonderful dishes, with the rich aroma of black truffle. Both the brie and the salami were already delicious on their own, but adding truffle elevated them to another level. Truly superb.

The morning set is a great value. It’s enough for two people. You can eat plenty of vegetables, and it paired wonderfully with wine. It’s not often you find a place that serves quinoa and hummus.

I forget the exact price, but the “Peperoncino” was also delicious. It was another dish that paired well with wine.

We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine. I believe it was around 1400 THB+. It was a very delicious Cava with a good balance.

Recommended rating for “El Mercado Calle 35”

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). I personally feel that El Mercado Calle 35, a Spanish bar in Phrom Phong, would be equivalent to a 3.4 on Tabelog, so I’ll leave that note here.

Points that earned high marks include the ability to enjoy delicious wine with tasty cold cuts and their morning offerings, as well as the very pleasant atmosphere and comfortable environment. However, since it’s a bit on the pricier side, I think it’s more suited for events like girls’ nights out or parties rather than daily visits.

Conclusion

The Spanish bar “El Mercado Calle 35” in Phrom Phong is recommended for a slightly luxurious girls’ night out. You can enjoy delicious wine with tasty cold cuts and morning dishes.
