Introduction

I recently visited the popular kuay tiao (noodle soup) specialty shop “Zaew Sukhumvit” located about a 3-minute walk from BTS Thonglor Station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the popular kuay tiao specialty shop “Zaew Sukhumvit” in Thonglor

Zaew Sukhumvit is located about a 3-minute walk from BTS Thonglor Station. You’ll find it along Sukhumvit Road, in the same row as Baimee Concessary and the kuay tiao ramen shop Shichisei. It’s right next to Shichisei.

Zaew always seems to have a lot of customers. It’s as bustling as Baimee Concessary.

In addition to the Sukhumvit Road location, Zaew also has a branch at the entrance of Sukhumvit Soi 49, also in Thonglor. The menus and flavors are quite different, so I’ve written a separate review for the Soi 49 branch.

I ordered the “Zaew Noodle (Bamee, with soup) 60B”. The Zaew Noodle is the most standard kuay tiao menu item at Zaew. It consists of noodles topped with ingredients, served with a hot soup. The toppings are typically a mix of minced pork and fish paste, but recently I’ve been enjoying the generous pork topping at Lung Wah in Prompong. I asked if it was possible to have only pork as the topping, and they said, “Of course!” So I ordered it that way. It arrived in about 5 minutes. The noodles and soup are served in separate bowls, so I poured the soup over the noodles.

The soup had a pleasant richness, and the crispy fried garlic bits mixed in were a nice touch. The bamee noodles are familiar to Japanese palates. You can also choose other types of noodles, such as glass noodles or rice vermicelli.

Despite being a popular shop, I was unfortunately not particularly impressed. Perhaps it’s because I’m accustomed to Japanese ramen, and I found it a bit lacking.

I also tried the “Zaew Noodle (Bamee, no soup) 60B”. This was also just a fairly standard dry bamee noodle dish.

In addition to the Zaew Noodle, they also offer dishes like Yentafo (known for its distinctive red soup), Tofu Noodles (made from tofu), Fish Noodles (topped with fish slices), Pork Ball Noodles (with minced pork), Pork Wonton Yentafo, Fish Noodle Yentafo, Mixed Fish Ball Soup, and Zaew Minced Pork Soup.

Recommendation Score for “Zaew Sukhumvit”

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score following the style of Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the popular kuay tiao specialty shop “Zaew Sukhumvit” in Thonglor, I personally feel it’s equivalent to a 3.2 on Tabelog, so I’ll leave this note.

Conclusion

Zaew Sukhumvit, a kuay tiao specialty shop in Thonglor, is a popular noodle restaurant that always draws a crowd. The prices are also affordable, making it a place you can easily visit regularly.
