Introduction

I recently visited the hotel restaurant “Ekkaluck Bangkok” at Thonglor, which offers a champagne and breakfast buffet, located about a 4-minute walk from BTS Thong Lo station. I’d like to share my review.

Champagne & Breakfast Buffet at “Ekkaluck Bangkok” in Thonglor

About a 4-minute walk from BTS Thong Lo station, you’ll find a Marriott-affiliated hotel called “Madi Paidi.” On the first floor of Madi Paidi is the hotel restaurant “Ekkaluck Bangkok,” where you can enjoy a champagne and breakfast buffet.

You might know “Asa-shan” (morning champagne) if you’re a Thai expat wife living in Bangkok, but it might be an unfamiliar term to others. It’s not “morning shampoo” – since this is a Bangkok gourmet blog, it’s related to food and drink. Yes, it means “champagne in the morning.” I’m not sure if it’s a universal term or a Bangkok creation, but the Kempinski Hotel Siam is said to be the originator of “asa-shan” in Bangkok. It refers to drinking champagne (sparkling wine) while enjoying a morning buffet at a hotel. We call this “asa-shan.”

Given its popularity among Thai expat wives, you might expect it to be pricey, like afternoon tea. However, Ekkaluck Bangkok offers this “asa-shan” at an affordable price. The all-you-can-eat buffet and champagne costs 853B++ (998B total). Furthermore, if you install the free Marriott Bonvoy app and register as a member, you’ll receive a 10% discount on the 853B price, bringing it down to 913B. Registration only needs to be done by the representative. Considering the Kempinski Hotel charges 1400B++ (1638B), Ekkaluck Bangkok’s “asa-shan” is quite reasonably priced.

Ekkaluck Bangkok’s champagne and breakfast buffet starts at 6 AM, with last order at 10:30 AM. I couldn’t make it at 6 AM, so I arrived at 7:30 AM. It seemed fine to stay a while even after the last order. They are open on weekends, so it’s suitable for families.

Of course, I opted for the “Champagne & Breakfast Buffet.” It cost 913B with the Marriott Bonvoy discount. There is one type of champagne (sparkling wine), which the staff will pour for you. They are attentive and will refill your glass in a “continuous pour” style before it gets empty, so be mindful not to drink too much.

The buffet line offers various cold cuts like ham and cheese, along with bread and fruits. In addition to the buffet, there are also plated dishes you can order from the menu and have freshly prepared. When prices are listed, people tend to order the more expensive items – perhaps it’s human nature.

I tried the Thai-style crab omelet, Ekkaluck congee (congee topped with truffle), and the visually appealing Eggs Benedict. The portions are standard, so if you want to try various dishes, sharing is recommended. As expected from a Marriott hotel restaurant, both the food and the champagne were delicious.

Recommendation Score for “Ekkaluck Bangkok”

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score based on the Tabelog format. For the hotel restaurant “Ekkaluck Bangkok” in Thonglor, offering a champagne and breakfast buffet, I personally feel it’s equivalent to a Tabelog score of 3.5, so I’ll note that down.

The high points are the ability to enjoy delicious champagne and a breakfast buffet affordably. It’s likely the best value “asa-shan” in Bangkok. On the other hand, it lacks the grandeur of the Kempinski Hotel, the originator of “asa-shan,” so it’s best to choose based on your needs.

Conclusion

“Ekkaluck Bangkok,” a hotel restaurant in Thonglor offering a champagne and breakfast buffet, is recommended for those who want to enjoy “asa-shan” affordably and casually.
