Introduction

I recently visited the Chinese restaurant “龍珠餐廳 / Longcheu Restaurant” located about an 11-minute walk from MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre Station (on Rama IV Road), and I’m here to share my review.

About the budget Chinese restaurant “Longcheu Restaurant” on Rama IV

Longcheu Restaurant is situated along Rama IV Road, approximately an 11-minute walk from MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre Station.

The name “Longcheu” refers to the legendary treasure pearl held by a dragon, said to grant any wish – essentially, the “Dragon Ball” familiar to many. “Restaurant” means “dining.”

Longcheu Restaurant is a simple, no-frills establishment. While not dirty, it’s far from pristine. The tables and chairs are very basic. It might not be the best spot for a date or a party, but as a hidden gem that’s barely mentioned online, it could be a pleasant surprise for friends or colleagues.

The menu is listed in Thai, Chinese, and English, with Japanese occasionally included.

Menu at “Longcheu Restaurant” (Photos, Prices, Reviews)

I tried the “Century Egg Tofu for 90 THB.” As you can see in the photo, the portion size is quite generous for the price. The jelly-like century egg is wrapped in tofu, and it’s delicious when mixed with the sauce.

Next, I had the “Pan-fried Pork and Napa Cabbage Gyoza for 90 THB.” Ten large dumplings for this price is incredibly cheap. As the photo shows, they are cooked somewhere between pan-frying and deep-frying, giving them a slightly firm texture. Biting into them releases a burst of savory meat and vegetable juices – quite satisfying.

The “Grilled Eggplant for 100 THB” was also delicious, with the eggplant having a crispy texture. This dish also seemed to be cooked in a similar pan-fried and deep-fried style.

The standout dishes for me were the “Shrimp Fried Rice for 80 THB” and the “Mapo Tofu for 120 THB.” The shrimp fried rice at this price is almost unbelievable – cheaper than street food, perhaps? The flavor was a bit light, so I tried it with the Mapo Tofu, and it was exceptional! It made for a surprisingly luxurious Mapo Tofu over rice. The Mapo Tofu itself is also mildly seasoned, so it pairs well. The Chinese dishes here have a home-style taste, with a noticeable restraint in salt and oil.

By the way, a large bottle of Singha beer was 110 THB.

Longcheu Restaurant offers incredibly affordable, delicious, and mildly seasoned Chinese food. If it were closer, I’d be a regular!
