Introduction
I recently visited the izakaya “Hinata” (串焼き･串揚げ ヒナタ), located about a 12-minute walk from BTS Asoke station, and I’d like to share my review.
About the Japanese izakaya “Hinata” in Asoke
Hinata (串焼き･串揚げ ヒナタ) is situated approximately a 12-minute walk from BTS Asoke station. It’s located down a small alley off Sukhumvit Soi 21.
This izakaya is managed by a Japanese owner, who was present when I visited. It’s helpful that communication in Japanese is possible. The interior has the feel of a typical Japanese izakaya, with table seating as well as a raised seating area (koshikake).

I visited during lunchtime. Hinata’s lunch menu is very affordable for an izakaya, with many options in the 100 THB range.
The set meals (teishoku) include: Ginger Pork Set, Fried Horse Mackerel Set, Fried Chicken, Beef Tongue with Nanban Miso, Chicken Nanban, Chicken Cutlet with Tartar Sauce, Pork Fillet Cutlet, Boiled Chicken with Sesame Soy Sauce, Fried Oysters, Fried Chicken with Sweet and Sour Sauce, Omurice Yakisoba, Tempura, Yakisoba, Stir-fried Vegetables, Charcoal-grilled Vegetables, Salmon Sashimi, Grilled Salmon, Salmon Cutlet with Tartar Sauce, Salt-grilled Mackerel, and Nikusui (clear meat soup).
The rice bowls (donburi) include: Charcoal-grilled Chicken Don, Charcoal-grilled Pork Don, Oyakodon (Chicken and Egg Bowl), Katsudon (Pork Cutlet Bowl), Pork Fillet Katsudon, Sauce Katsudon, Katsu Meshi, Gyudon (Beef Bowl), Kaisendon (Seafood Bowl), Nori Don, Special Nori Don, Special Grilled Pork Don, Spicy Lemon Fried Chicken Don, Omurice Curry, Curry Rice, Katsu Curry, Fried Chicken Curry, and Pork Fillet Curry.
The udon options include: Grated Radish Tempura Bukkake Udon, Shrimp Tempura Bukkake Udon, Salad Udon, Bukkake Udon, Beef and Nasu Grated Radish Udon, Chopped Kitsune Grated Radish Udon, Okra, Bonito Flakes, and Grated Radish Bukkake Udon, Fried Tofu Skin and Tempura Bukkake Udon, Hot Spring Egg and Beef Udon, Clam Udon, Shrimp Tempura Udon, Fried Tofu Skin and Fish Cake Udon, Kake Udon (hot broth udon), Kitsune Udon (sweet fried tofu), Tempura Udon, Curry Udon, Tempura Curry Udon, and Fried Chicken Curry Udon.
The hamburg steak dishes include: Cheese Hamburg Steak, Double Hamburg Steak, Regular, Grated Radish and Perilla, Teriyaki Mayo, Demi-Glace, and Curry.
They also offer various other izakaya dishes, yakitori, kushikatsu, and drinks, all at reasonable prices.
I had trouble deciding what to order because there were so many appealing options. I chose the “Beef Tongue with Nanban Miso Set” (牛タン南蛮味噌定食) for 240 THB, as it seemed unusual to find in Bangkok. The beef tongue was about 5-7mm thick, not quite as thick as Sendai’s famous beef tongue, but significantly thicker than what you’d typically find at a yakiniku restaurant. It was already seasoned, but with the nanban miso paste, it was truly delicious beef tongue. It came with pickled cabbage. I was pleasantly surprised to find this dish in Bangkok, and the portion size was generous for the price.
I also tried a bit of the “Chicken Cutlet with Tartar Sauce Set” (チキンカツタルタル定食) my child was eating. For 170 THB, this was excellent value for money. Great cost performance.
Recommendation Rating for “Hinata”
To be helpful, I’ll give a score based on the Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site) system. For the izakaya “Hinata” in Asoke, I personally feel it corresponds to about a 3.3 on Tabelog. I’ll leave this note here.

The izakaya “Hinata” in Asoke is recommended for those who want to eat delicious and affordable Japanese food! With a Japanese owner and raised seating area, it’s also very convenient to use!
