Introduction

I recently visited the omurice specialty restaurant “OMU” located on the 6th floor of CentralWorld, which is about an 8-minute walk from BTS Chit Lom Station. I’ll be reviewing it today.

About the omurice specialty restaurant “OMU” at CentralWorld

CentralWorld is located about an 8-minute walk from BTS Chit Lom Station. The omurice specialty restaurant “OMU” is on the 6th floor of CentralWorld. While many of the customers were Japanese, there were also many foreigners and Thai customers. OMU also has branches in Ekkamai and Silom.

By the way, did you know that omurice originated in Japan? It’s not Italian, French, or American. Omurice is a dish adapted from Western omelets, and the origin restaurants are said to be “Renga-tei” in Ginza, Tokyo, and “Hokkyokusei” in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Omurice was born in the Meiji era.

“OMU” Menu (Photos, Prices, Review)

What sets OMU apart is the sheer variety of their menu. You can choose from tomato sauce, demi-glace sauce, curry sauce, white sauce, (and possibly others), and then select various ingredients. There are also egg options, allowing you to create a “fluffy melting” omelet that spills out when cut in the middle – the so-called dandelion omurice. At OMU, they call this the “lava style egg,” and it’s a must-try! You can also opt for “lava cheese.”

I ordered the “Eggplant, Bacon, and Mushroom Tomato Sauce Omurice” for 190 THB. I added the “lava style egg” option for 20 THB and “Set C” (soup, salad, drink) for 75 THB.

When you gently cut the egg with a knife, the fluffy, molten egg flows out beautifully. For just an additional 20 THB (about 90 yen), you can have this amazing experience. It’s a must-have! The taste was also pretty good. The eggplant surprisingly paired well. Putting adults aside, this omurice was a huge hit with the kids. I also tried a bit of the white sauce, and it was good. My friend mentioned that the demi-glace sauce was different from what they expected.

Rating for “OMU”

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). I personally feel that the omurice specialty restaurant “OMU” at CentralWorld would be equivalent to about a 3.2 on Tabelog. I’ll leave this note here.

Conclusion

The omurice specialty restaurant “OMU” at CentralWorld is recommended for families. It’s guaranteed to be a hit with children! Be sure to order the fluffy, melting dandelion omurice!
