I recently visited the famous mango shop “Mae Varee” in Bangkok, located just a minute’s walk from BTS Thonglor Station. There isn’t much information online about Bangkok’s restaurants and street food, and even less in the way of reviews and word-of-mouth like you’d find on Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). I hope this review can be of some help.
About the famous mango shop “Mae Varee” in Thonglor
Mae Varee is located right at the entrance of Sukhumvit Soi 55, just a short walk from BTS Thonglor Station. The area in front of Mae Varee is a popular spot for motorcycle taxis, with queues of passengers forming in the morning and evening. The shop is easily recognizable by the giant mango sculpture hanging out front and the beautifully piled-up mangoes displayed.

Mae Varee sells fresh mangoes. In January, they were priced at 160 THB per kilogram. The price reportedly drops and the mangoes become sweeter as the rainy season (June-October) approaches. While I usually buy mango sticky rice and haven’t purchased mangoes individually, they say they can select the perfect mango for you based on when you plan to eat it!
The mango sticky rice is absolutely delicious! Many people are hesitant about the combination of mango and sticky rice, but I urge you to try it. Important tip: do not refrigerate mango sticky rice once you take it home. Eat it at room temperature within 3 hours for the best experience; the mango stays fresh and the sticky rice remains soft. The owner speaks English.
