Introduction
I recently visited the Japanese cake shop & cafe “Japan Pastry Cafe (JPC)” located about a 10-minute walk from BTS Thong Lo Station, and I’m here to share my review.
About the Japanese cake shop & cafe “Japan Pastry Cafe” in Thonglor
About a 10-minute walk from BTS Thong Lo Station, along Sukhumvit Soi 55, you’ll find “Marche Thonglor,” a shopping mall under the Central Group. It’s the mall that houses TOPS. On September 6, 2024, a Japanese cake shop & cafe, “Japan Pastry Cafe (JPC),” opened in a corner of this mall, and I visited right away.
Japan Pastry Cafe (JPC) is apparently operated by a company that runs cake shops and restaurants in Japan. This company opened its first Japan Pastry Cafe in Siam in October 2023. Although it hasn’t even been a year since its opening, it already has many reviews on Google, indicating its popularity among locals. The Marche Thonglor branch is their second store, and they are reportedly planning to open a third branch in Phrom Phong soon. They also had a booth at the “Japan Expo” held at Siam Paragon in August 2024.
At the storefront, a large Shiba Inu mascot stands proudly. I have a feeling it might become a new photo spot in Thonglor. While the mascot is certainly eye-catching, the door and the exterior counter also give the shop a very stylish appearance.
The interior is also a clean and stylish space, with Shiba Inu mascots placed here and there. It’s a dream for dog lovers! The cafe is spacious, easily accommodating around 20-30 people, with various seating options. Some seats even have power outlets for charging laptops and smartphones.

Menu at “Japan Pastry Cafe” (Photos, Prices, Reviews)
I visited shortly after the grand opening on September 6, 2024. For the first three days, they had a special promotion: a complimentary cake and bag (worth approximately 700 THB) with every dine-in cake and drink purchase (around 250 THB). I couldn’t believe the generosity – was I hearing right? It was true! My family and I ordered four cakes and four drinks, and we received four cakes and four bags as gifts. This was truly a legendary opening promotion! I’m looking forward to seeing what future promotions they have.

Apologies for the long preamble, but onto the food! I tried their signature recommended items: the “Strawberry Shortcake” (120 THB+) and the “Grapefruit Shortcake” (140 THB+). Considering that cakes in Bangkok can be quite expensive, these prices are very reasonable. They are about a third of the price of those at the popular “OMGM (Oh My Grandmother)” in Marche Thonglor. Tasting them, the fresh cream was fluffy, exactly like Japanese fresh cream. The sponge cake was also soft and fluffy. Both the strawberries and the grapefruit were delicious.
I asked the chef, and he explained that the fresh cream used in Japanese cakes is made from animal fat derived from raw milk, characterized by its rich flavor and smooth texture. In contrast, due to Bangkok’s heat, it’s common to use cream with added vegetable fats (or strictly speaking, whipped cream) that are more heat-resistant, resulting in a completely different taste and texture from Japanese cream. Japan Pastry Cafe has succeeded in recreating the authentic Japanese fresh cream through extensive research.
The “Strawberry Pistachio” (140 THB+) featured a mousse filling and was also delicious. In fact, all the cakes were incredibly tasty, even when compared to cakes in Japan. The “Iced Latte” (70 THB+) was expertly brewed by their barista and was also very good. The “Hot Latte” (70 THB+) featured beautiful latte art. Besides coffee, they had many other tempting drink options.

The “Heart Cheesecake” (180 THB+), which I received as part of the opening promotion, was also incredibly delicious – moist and fluffy. It seemed to be made with mild cream cheese, making it a huge hit with the kids. Also, I’d been struggling to find good takeaway sweets in Bangkok, but JPC has them! They offer gift sets with an assortment of baked goods like financiers and langue de chat. They also mentioned that they plan to expand their selection of cakes and other items in the future, which I’m very excited about!

Rating for “Japan Pastry Cafe”
To be helpful, I’ll assign a score based on the Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site) rating scale. For the Japanese cake shop “Japan Pastry Cafe (JPC)” at Marche Thonglor, I personally feel it would be equivalent to a 3.4 on Tabelog. I’ll note this down for future reference.
Conclusion
“Japan Pastry Cafe (JPC)” in Thonglor is a cake shop and cafe where you can enjoy delicious Japanese cakes and barista coffee. It’s also reasonably priced and highly recommended!
