Introduction

I recently visited the crab fried rice (Khao Pad Pu) specialist “Puutong,” located about a 7-minute walk from Phra Khanong BTS station, and would like to share my review.

About the crab fried rice specialist restaurant “Puutong” in Phra Khanong

Puutong, a specialist crab fried rice shop, is located about a 7-minute walk from Phra Khanong BTS station, down a small alley off Sukhumvit Road. Puutong is a street food stall run by two women. It is situated within a covered building that resembles a food court.

It seemed to be primarily a takeaway business, with only about five cramped seats available. I was fortunate enough to get a seat just as the previous customer finished eating.

The establishment was clean, so there were no hygiene concerns. The menu was simple, making the language barrier non-existent.

Puutong Menu (Photos, Prices, and Review)

I had been craving fried rice for the past few days, so I ordered the shop’s signature dish, a slightly larger size: “Crab Fried Rice M, 180B.” It arrived in about 5 minutes, emitting a wonderful aroma that made me desperately try to hold back my drool. The mound of fried rice was topped with a generous amount of crab. There were also some squid pieces and the green onions added to the appetizing presentation.

The rice was perfectly cooked – fluffy and separated. It was coated in a pleasant amount of oil and seasonings, with just the right touch of pepper, making it incredibly delicious. The crab was plentiful and its flavor was strong. This was exactly the fried rice I had been looking for. Previously, for fried rice, I relied heavily on Bamee Kon Sa Lee in Thonglor, but they are currently closed for renovations until November. That’s why I’ve been searching for a good fried rice place. I’ve found a great one.

By the way, the S size is 120B, and the XL size is 300B. The reason for the absence of an L size is unclear.

Although the sign advertised it as a “Crab Fried Rice Specialty Shop,” there were a few other menu items available. Simple egg fried rice costs 40B. They also offer crab omelets, crab gapao, and stir-fried crab with curry. It seems they also have dishes using shrimp instead of crab. I’d like to try various items next time.

Puutong’s Recommended Score

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the crab fried rice (Khao Pad Pu) specialist “Puutong” in Phra Khanong, I personally feel it’s equivalent to around a 3.5 on Tabelog. I’ll leave this note here.

Conclusion

“Puutong,” the crab fried rice (Khao Pad Pu) specialist in Phra Khanong, is highly recommended for anyone craving delicious fried rice. While crab can be expensive in Bangkok, Puutong offers generous portions of fried rice topped with plenty of crab at an affordable price, which is fantastic.
