Introduction

I recently visited the Japanese cafe restaurant “Cha-an Hakata Coffee,” located about a 6-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the tranquil Japanese cafe “Cha-an Hakata Coffee” in Phrom Phong

Cafe restaurant “Cha-an Hakata Coffee” is located just off Sukhumvit Soi 35, about a 6-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. It’s right next to “Fuji Super Market Branch 1,” which most Japanese residents know. Nearby are “Kratai Shokudo” and “Kochan Ramen,” making it a true hub for the Japanese community.

In this area frequented by Japanese residents, Hakata Coffee truly lives up to its unofficial title of “The tranquil Japanese cafe.” It feels like a casual, everyday cafe that you can use without pretense.

Menu at “Cha-an Hakata Coffee” (Photos, Prices, and Review)

The menu offers a wide variety of items. There are sandwiches, toasts, pasta, loco moco, taco rice, curry, salads, set meals, teppanyaki, hamburgers, and various small plates and desserts. For drinks, they have coffee, tea, frappuccinos, smoothies, soft drinks, Italian sodas, beer, whiskey, cocktails, chu-hi, and umeshu. From 4 PM to 8 PM, they have happy hour with beer for 75 THB.

I wasn’t very hungry, so I opted for the light “Shrimp Avocado Sandwich” for 220 THB. The sandwich was neatly wrapped in paper. It tasted like a refined cafe sandwich. However, I wasn’t quite sure how to eat it and ended up dropping two precious shrimp… My apologies to the staff… The set came with soup, which I believe contained some kind of grains and finely chopped mushrooms; it was delicious. French fries were also included.

I also had the “Smoothie Delight” for 70 THB. When you add a drink to a meal, it’s half price as part of a set (normally 140 THB). The “Delight” is a mix of banana, mangosteen, and orange. It had a good flavor with the sweetness of banana and the tanginess of orange and mangosteen, with a slight bitterness (perhaps from the orange pith?).

I didn’t have coffee this time, but they had various beans on display, and a wonderful aroma filled the air. An iced cafe latte is priced at 120 THB.

Both the food and drinks are a bit on the pricier side. A regular lunch with a drink would likely exceed 300 THB.

Recommendation for “Cha-an Hakata Coffee”

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the cafe restaurant “Cha-an Hakata Coffee” in Phrom Phong, I personally feel it corresponds to a Tabelog score of around 3.2. I’ll leave this note here for reference.

Conclusion

“Cha-an Hakata Coffee,” a cafe restaurant in Phrom Phong, is recommended for those looking for a relaxing cafe in Bangkok that resembles those commonly found in Japan. It feels like a casual, everyday cafe that you can use without pretense.
