Introduction

I recently visited the chicken restaurant “Ise,” located about a 15-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the popular chicken restaurant “Ise” in Phrom Phong

Ise, a popular chicken restaurant in Phrom Phong, is about a 15-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station. To get there, walk north on Soi 39 for about 10 minutes from Phrom Phong Station, turn left at the intersection with Bio House (Starbucks), and you’ll find it a short distance away. The chicken restaurant “Ise” is located on the first floor of “39 Boulevard Executive Residence,” a large apartment complex and shopping mall. It’s in the same building as “Kaisugi” and “Bornga“.

Ise is apparently the Bangkok branch of a long-established yakitori restaurant with its main store in Kanda, Tokyo. There is another branch in Bangkok on Soi 47, also in Phrom Phong (between Phrom Phong and Thong Lo).

Ise is famous for its oyakodon. While the main store in Kanda advertises its “Kanda area specialty oyakodon,” the dish you absolutely must try at Ise in Phrom Phong is the Nama Oyakodon! It took up the most space on the menu, so I assumed it was their recommendation, and ordering it was a fantastic decision. *Note: I visited during lunchtime on this day. All content and prices are from the lunch menu.*

The “Nama Oyakodon (258B+)” is served with sushi rice topped with seared chicken (tataki), green onions, bonito flakes, shiso leaves, myoga ginger, seaweed, sesame seeds, and a raw egg yolk. You eat it with soy sauce and the accompanying wasabi. The seared chicken combined with the sweetness of the soy sauce and the refreshing herbs was delicious. The egg yolk also added a wonderful harmony. The way the chicken tataki was cooked was perfect. Although I didn’t confirm, I suspect the soy sauce was dashi-based or perhaps a sweeter soy sauce from western Japan. It also came with two small side dishes and chicken soup, all of which were tasty with a good seasoning.

On another visit, I also tried the “Oyakodon (240B+).” While not as mind-blowing as the Nama Oyakodon, it was a standard, delicious oyakodon. The “Chicken Katsu Toji Teishoku (280B+)” and “Karaage Teishoku (270B+)” also left a high-quality impression.

The noodle dishes are also excellent. The “Carbonara (288B+),” “Prosciutto Cream Pasta with Truffle Aroma (348B+),” and “Soupless Dandan Noodles (288B+)” all featured a raw egg yolk on top, showcasing Ise’s dedication to chicken.

Additionally, most lunch menus allow you to add a drink and dessert for +48B, which is a great value and highly recommended. For example, a can of Coke and cheesecake are included in the meal set (desserts vary daily. The cheesecake and panna cotta shown in the photos were from different days).

Recommendation score for popular chicken restaurant “Ise”

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score based on Tabelog’s system. For the popular chicken restaurant “Ise” in Phrom Phong, I personally estimate it to be equivalent to a 3.7 on Tabelog. This is due to the delicious Nama Oyakodon and the fact that all the dishes my companion ordered were also very tasty.

Conclusion

The popular chicken restaurant “Ise” in Phrom Phong is recommended for those who enjoy chicken dishes and Japanese cuisine! If you don’t mind raw chicken, be sure to try the Nama Oyakodon!
