Introduction

I recently visited the Japanese teishoku & izakaya restaurant “Kitchen Niigata”, located about a 10-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. Here’s my review.

About the Japanese teishoku and izakaya restaurant “Kitchen Niigata” in Phrom Phong

Kitchen Niigata is located about a 10-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. It relocated to its current location from Sukhumvit Road in April 2025.

Kitchen Niigata offers teishoku (set meal) menus during lunch (including Western dishes, fried items, etc.) and izakaya-style menus in the evening, so you can choose based on your needs. The lunch sets seem to be a bit cheaper for Japanese-style set meals. Kitchen Niigata is popular not only with Japanese people seeking home-style cooking but also with locals.

I visited in the evening this time, so this review will focus on the izakaya menu.

Kitchen Niigata Menu (Photos, Prices, Reviews)

I tried the “Motsunikomi” (120 THB). It was a standard motsunikomi without any particular oddities, but I felt it lacked a bit of richness.

I also had the “Agedashi Tofu” (110 THB). This was also ordinary.

The “Tamatoji Udon” (180 THB), “Onigiri” (70 THB), and “Tendon” (250 THB) were all average. Based on the restaurant’s name, “Kitchen Niigata,” I secretly hoped to try rice from Niigata, but that’s probably not the case. I assume it’s Thai-grown Japanese rice.

I cannot really recommend the “Tonkotsu Kara Miso Ramen” (190 THB). It had a large photo and a catchy phrase on the first page: “Addictive once you try it,” which led me to mistakenly believe it was a signature dish and order it. However, the noodles were like those from a regular supermarket, the soup was thin and barely tasted of miso or tonkotsu, the vegetables and boiled egg were also bland, and the overall harmony was lacking – a very disappointing experience. I don’t know about their other ramen dishes, but I wouldn’t recommend the Tonkotsu Kara Miso Ramen.

By the way, a large bottle of Singha beer was 130 THB and came with edamame.

However, online reviews are not bad, and there were a decent number of customers, so perhaps the dishes I ordered were just not to my taste. The relocation might have had an impact. The lunch menu might taste different. Please try it for yourself to find out.

Kitchen Niigata Recommendation Score

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the teishoku & izakaya “Kitchen Niigata” in Phrom Phong, I personally would rate it around a 3.0 on the Tabelog scale, so I’ll leave that note here.

This rating is based on a single visit, and I didn’t find any particularly outstanding points. Overall, I think the restaurant could be recommended if the food were a bit tastier.

Conclusion

I cannot highly recommend the teishoku & izakaya “Kitchen Niigata” in Phrom Phong.
