Introduction

I recently visited the upscale ramen restaurant “Kaisugi” located about a 15-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the upscale ramen restaurant “Kaisugi” in Phrom Phong

The upscale ramen restaurant “Kaisugi” is located about a 15-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station. Kaisugi is in the same building as “Ise” and “Bornga“, which I introduced previously.

Kaisugi is a ramen restaurant with its main branch in Iwakuni City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and it expanded to Bangkok in August 2024. Initially, I saw many reviews on X (formerly Twitter), but it seems things have settled down recently.

Kaisugi operates a total of eight stores in Yamaguchi and Hiroshima prefectures, and is known as a popular restaurant whose signature menu item is its soupless tantanmen (mazesoba).

In addition to ramen, they also offer izakaya-style dishes in the evening. They also have banquet courses (starting from 1200B++) and happy hour specials (starting from 59B++).

Kaisugi Menu (Photos, Prices, Review)

I ordered the “Cold Chicken Mazesoba (249B++)”. Normally priced at 319B++, it was available at this price due to a Super Tuesday promotion. The original price is quite high, so the promotional price feels about right. In fact, it still feels a bit expensive. Super Tuesday seems to be held irregularly each month and is announced on their Instagram.

The dish arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. The noodles were coated in a sweet, rich sauce and topped with egg yolk, Japanese green onions, red onion, nori seaweed, chashu pork, and spinach. The noodles were slightly firm, which was just right for me. You can also choose a soft-boiled egg.

Mixing it all together and taking a bite, the first thing that stands out is the rich sauce. It’s amazing how well they’ve recreated this Japanese balance of sweet and savory flavors. The slightly chewy, wavy noodles cling well to the sauce. The toppings, including meat and vegetables, are well-balanced, providing a pleasant texture and taste.

Also, complimentary green tea is available during lunchtime.

Kaisugi Recommendation Score

To provide a useful reference, I’ll assign a score based on Tabelog’s system. For the upscale ramen restaurant “Kaisugi” in Phrom Phong, I personally rate it around a Tabelog 3.4. I’ll make a note of this for future reference.

The flavor is definitely the highest point. It’s highly refined and has an addictive taste that makes you want to eat it repeatedly. However, even the cheapest ramen is 299B++, which is quite expensive for ramen. If they could keep the prices around the Super Tuesday promotional price, I think it would be closer to a Tabelog 3.6.

Conclusion

The upscale ramen restaurant “Kaisugi” in Phrom Phong offers a highly addictive flavor and is highly recommended for ramen enthusiasts. However, it is pricey for ramen, so I recommend taking advantage of their promotions.
