I recently visited the udon restaurant “Tsuru Udon”, located about a 9-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station, and would like to share my review.
Udon Restaurant “Tsuru Udon” @ Phrom Phong
Tsuru Udon is located about a 9-minute walk north on Sukhumvit Soi 39 from BTS Phrom Phong Station. It’s in the same area as “Sekai no Yamachan,” Karaoke Chitta, and “Parden.” Directly opposite is “Treasure Factory,” a second-hand shop popular with Japanese residents in Bangkok.
Tsuru Udon has its main branch in Thonglor.
“Tsuru Udon” Menu (Photos, Prices, Review)
I ordered the “Zaru Udon” for 210B++. On this particular day, there seemed to be some issue, and despite the simple menu, it took over 20 minutes to be served, even though it wasn’t very busy. However, once I tasted it, the udon had a fantastic chewy texture. The noodles were long and incredibly delicious. I assume they are handmade, and I was impressed that such delicious udon could be made in Bangkok, with its different climate and water. The dipping sauce was a single type of mentsuyu, which was sufficient. The only disappointing aspect was the price; 210B++ for zaru udon felt quite steep.
Tsuru Udon Recommendation Score
To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to how Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site) does. For the udon restaurant “Tsuru Udon” in Phrom Phong, I personally estimate it to be around a Tabelog 3.3.
The high points are its ability to serve such delicious and chewy udon in Bangkok, a place with a different climate, water, and people compared to Japan. On the other hand, the high price is a significant drawback.
Conclusion
Tsuru Udon in Phrom Phong is recommended for those who want to eat delicious udon in Bangkok, even if it’s a bit pricey.
