Introduction

I recently visited the Italian & bar “Ban Koku no Haha (Haruranman Pizza & Bar)” located about a 5-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the Italian & Bar “Ban Koku no Haha” in Phrom Phong

The Italian & Bar “Ban Koku no Haha (Haruranman Pizza & Bar)” is located about a 5-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong Station, along Sukhumvit Soi 39.

Turning into the alley from Soi 39, you’ll find Hirom Garden Residence. To its left is “Ban Koku no Haha (Haruranman Cafe)”. There are two buildings: the front one is the manga cafe “Haruranman Comic & Cafe”, and the one behind it is “Ban Koku no Haha”. According to the staff, “Haruranman Pizza & Bar” is the former name, but traces of it remain on the signage and official website.

Since I didn’t use the manga cafe this time, I entered through the entrance for Ban Koku no Haha. The manga cafe and Ban Koku no Haha are connected internally, so I imagine it’s possible to move between them to eat if you’re a manga cafe customer.

According to the official website, the manga cafe offers a 6-hour free time pass on weekdays for 345 THB. You can enjoy 30,000 Japanese manga and 40 of the latest magazines. Karaoke is available for a 3-hour free time pass on weekdays for 345 THB.

I also noted that they offer services like shower access, overnight stays, airport transfers, and luggage storage, suggesting it can be used in various ways.

With that preface aside, upon entering Ban Koku no Haha, the first thing you’ll notice is a pink Ganesha mural on the wall, painted by an artist from Japan. This might be the only place in Bangkok with a pink Ganesha. I think it’s great that you can easily pay respects here.

Ban Koku no Haha is both the name of the establishment and a real person. As seen in the signage image, she is a fortune teller named Mai Shino, who is the mama-san of this establishment. She is usually present at the restaurant and offers fortune-telling on the spot if requested (please inquire directly about fees, etc.). The counter is lined with items that seem to eman energy, such as crystals and power stones.

Ban Koku no Haha Menu (Photos, Prices, Reviews)

At Ban Koku no Haha, I highly recommend the course menus. There is a “Standard Course” available all day and a lighter “Lunch Course” limited to lunchtime.

The “Lunch Course (299 THB++)” includes an appetizer, main dish, pasta, and one drink. You can choose from soft drinks to wine for your drink. The dishes change daily. I’ve visited several times, and I feel like the dishes rarely repeat. The assorted appetizer, main dish, and pasta are all elaborate, sometimes surprising you with their unique flavor combinations. The portion size might be just right for women, but a bit small for men. Consider adding a “Draft Beer (70 THB++)” from the happy hour.

The “Standard Course (1000 THB)” when I visited included a salad, appetizer, ajillo, pasta, pizza, and a 2-hour all-you-can-drink option. It’s a flat 1000 THB. They mentioned that you could add 3 hours of karaoke for the same price, so I opted for that. I was quite drunk from the all-you-can-drink, so I don’t remember much, but I recall being impressed by the quality of the food, which was comparable to the lunch course. The ajillo and pizza were also authentic.

In addition to the courses, I recommend their recent promotion, “Half-Price Day”. This promotion, held on the 8th and 28th of each month (dates may vary), offers one dish at half price. When I visited, one day it was a Chicken Nanban Teishoku, and another day it was a Hamburg Steak Teishoku. Both were delicious, but the Hamburg Steak Teishoku was particularly excellent with its masterful use of spices.

*From April 2026, this promotion will only be held on the 8th of each month.

Ban Koku no Haha Recommendation Score

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the Italian & bar “Ban Koku no Haha (Haruranman Pizza & Bar)” in Phrom Phong, I personally feel it would be equivalent to a Tabelog score of 3.4, so I’ll note that down.

The high points are the authentic and delicious course meals, and the fact that they don’t cut corners even on the half-price day. I wish the lunch course had a bit more volume. Also, while Ban Koku no Haha offers many other ways to enjoy the restaurant affordably besides those introduced above, the information can be hidden or complex. If you can figure it out, you can enjoy it even more. Be sure to ask the Japanese staff!

Conclusion

“Ban Koku no Haha (Haruranman Pizza & Bar)”, an Italian & bar in Phrom Phong, is recommended for those who want a light course for lunch, those who want to enjoy a standard course with all-you-can-drink, and those who want to enjoy great value on Half-Price Day.
