Introduction
I recently visited the Michelin-awarded Kuay Teow specialty restaurant “Rung Ruean”, located about a 4-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station, and I’d like to share my review.
About the Michelin-awarded Kuay Teow restaurant “Rung Ruean” in Phrom Phong
Rung Ruean, a Michelin-awarded Kuay Teow specialty restaurant, is located about a 4-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station, along Sukhumvit Soi 26. Please note that it recently relocated to the opposite side of the street. Head south on Soi 26, and the new shop will be on your left. There are similar Kuay Teow shops and the old location on the right, but those are not it. *As of this article’s writing, Google Maps was still showing the old location (on the right). Please be careful.
Rung Ruean has been awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand every year since 2018. While it’s understandable that many restaurants tend to increase prices and decrease value for money after receiving a Michelin award for various reasons, Rung Ruean hasn’t significantly raised its prices despite maintaining the award for many years. I believe the cost performance remains high.

Rung Ruean Menu (Photos, Prices, Review)
When I visit a new Kuay Teow shop, I always order the “dry noodles” first. It’s partly because I simply like them, but also because dry noodles allow me to savor the noodles and toppings thoroughly. Some might argue I should savor the soup too, but personally, I’m so fond of Japanese ramen broth that I don’t ask for much from Kuay Teow soup.
Ordering at Rung Ruean is simple. *The menu includes Thai, English, Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.
Step 1: Choose your soup (Tom Yum soup, Dry Tom Yum, Clear soup, Dry)
Step 2: Choose your noodles (Sen Lek, Bamee, Sen Mee, Sen Yai, Woonsen, Guay Tiew Ee)
Step 3: Choose your ingredients (Pork, Chicken, Fish balls)
Step 4: Choose your size
For noodles, if you’re unsure, it’s best to choose Bamee (egg noodles), which are similar to Japanese ramen noodles. Woonsen (glass noodles) are light and have a pleasant texture. Sizes are S: 60B, M: 70B, L: 80B. I ordered a large size, and the portion seemed to be about 0.6 servings of noodles with a generous amount of toppings. It’s possible the size refers to the toppings. Please ask the staff for details.
I ordered the “Dry Bamee with Pork, Large size, 80B”. When asked if I could handle spicy food, I said yes, and it came topped with chili powder. It was perfectly spicy, so I recommend ordering it. Wow, the amount of ingredients was incredible. While the noodle portion was about 0.6 servings, there must have been over 100g of pork. The pork chunks were likely lean cuts, and the meatballs were low in fat, making it a relatively light dish.
Mixing it all together, the sweet and savory sauce coated the Bamee and pork beautifully. It was very delicious. It included peanuts, which were fantastic! They seemed to be roasted just right, adding a fragrant aroma when you bite into them.
As with most Kuay Teow dishes, one bowl felt slightly insufficient. Even the large size was perhaps around 0.7 servings.

Rung Ruean Recommendation Score
To be helpful, I’ll assign a score, following the style of Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For Rung Ruean, the Michelin-awarded Kuay Teow specialty restaurant in Phrom Phong, I personally feel it’s equivalent to a 3.7 on Tabelog. I’ll note this down.

Rung Ruean, the Michelin-awarded Kuay Teow specialty restaurant in Phrom Phong, is an excellent place to enjoy delicious Kuay Teow. It’s affordable and offers great value. If you want to eat Kuay Teow in Bangkok, this should be your first choice.
