Introduction
I recently visited the Khao Man Gai restaurant “Kwang Heng (popularly known as Green Chicken Rice)” located about a 17-minute walk from BTS Chit Lom station, and I’d like to share my review.
About “Kwang Heng (Green Chicken Rice)” in Chit Lom
Kwang Heng (Green Chicken Rice), a Khao Man Gai restaurant, is located about a 17-minute walk from BTS Chit Lom station. It’s a bit far to go out of your way, so I recommend stopping by when you’re already visiting Platinum Fashion Mall or CentralWorld.
I was curious about it because it’s often compared to “Pink Chicken Rice,” so I visited on my way back from Platinum. It’s only about a 4-minute walk from Platinum to Green Chicken Rice. As its nickname suggests, green is the signature color of Green Chicken Rice. The entrance and the interior are both green. It’s a famous long-standing restaurant, established in 1932.
The inside was clean and there were definitely no flies. There was no air conditioning, only fans. I didn’t use the restroom. The menu was available in Thai, English, and Chinese.

Menu at “Kwang Heng (Green Chicken Rice)” (Photos, Prices, Review)
I ordered the “Khao Man Gai (Mix) 80B”. I always order the mixed option when I visit a Khao Man Gai place for the first time. At Green Chicken Rice, the regular version comes with ginger soy sauce, and the fried version comes with chili sauce. The mixed option came with both. Individual dishes are 20B cheaper. The regular is 60B and the pink is 80B, but Green Chicken Rice has smaller portions, so the prices are roughly the same (Green: about 0.6 servings, Pink: about 0.8 servings). It comes with the typical peppery Thai soup. I like that.
The regular version was a bit dry and had a mild flavor. I remember Pink Chicken Rice being a bit more moist and having a richer taste. The fried version paired well with the sweet and spicy chili sauce. Pink Chicken Rice’s rice has a strong, delicious broth flavor, but I don’t recall anything particularly special about Green Chicken Rice’s rice. Overall, I preferred Pink Chicken Rice.
They also have menus for Kuay Teow, Satay, and Toast, and a wide selection of drinks including tea and beer, which I thought was a difference compared to Pink Chicken Rice.

Recommendation Score for “Kwang Heng (Green Chicken Rice)”
To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog. “Kwang Heng (Green Chicken Rice),” a Khao Man Gai restaurant near Platinum Fashion Mall, a short walk from BTS Chit Lom station, would personally be equivalent to around a 3.4 on Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). I’ll make a note of it here.
The flavor of the Khao Man Gai is definitely a highlight. If you prefer a lighter taste, you might become addicted. The variety of menu items is also noteworthy. On the other hand, for someone like me who prefers a richer flavor, I think Pink Chicken Rice has the edge.
Conclusion
“Kwang Heng (Green Chicken Rice),” a Khao Man Gai restaurant near BTS Chit Lom station, is recommended for those who enjoy a lighter Khao Man Gai. With a variety of options like Kuay Teow, Satay, beer, and tea, you can enjoy it in many ways.
