Introduction
I recently visited the Thai-style hot pot specialty restaurant “Heng Chun Seng”, located about a 16-minute walk from MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre Station. I’d like to share my review.
About the Thai-style hot pot restaurant “Heng Chun Seng” in Khlong Toei
Heng Chun Seng is located approximately a 16-minute walk from MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre Station. It’s situated a bit past Khlong Toei Market.
The sign displays “Heng Chun Seng” in Thai, with the Chinese characters “王春盛” written alongside. I had always wondered about this, so I asked a Thai friend. Apparently, restaurants of this type are generally run by Chinese-Thais. Famous establishments like “Tong Lee” (Gaitote Tonglee), a renowned roast chicken spot in Asoke, and “Rung Rueang” (Poonam), a Michelin Bib Gourmand awarded noodle shop in Phrom Phong, are also run by Chinese-Thais. While Heng Chun Seng’s signature dish is Chinese hot pot, the establishment itself isn’t a Chinese restaurant but rather an open-air Thai eatery. “Thai-style hot pot” might be a more fitting description. Due to the pot’s design, it’s sometimes called “Moo Fai pot” (charcoal pot).
Heng Chun Seng is an open-air Thai eatery lined up on Sunthonkosa Road’s shopping street. There is no air conditioning. We arrived just after 11 AM on a weekday, and there was already a line of about 20 people, so we waited for around 30 minutes. I didn’t use the restroom, so I can’t comment on its cleanliness, but judging by the exterior, it might not be very well-maintained. The style could be different. We were the only Japanese customers. The menu has English translations, and the staff understood English. However, for the specific cuts of offal, which might not be familiar in English, I recommend using Google Translate. If Google Translate isn’t sufficient, try using search or Google Lens.

Heng Chun Seng Menu (Photos, Prices, and Review)
While waiting in line, I bought some beer from a nearby convenience store (7-Eleven). According to Google Maps, they used to serve beer at one point, but it seems they no longer do.
There was also a satay stall next to the queue, so I bought some. 20 skewers for 120B – it was a perfect snack with beer while waiting for the hot pot. They’re on the smaller side, so if you’re debating between 10 or 20 skewers, I’d recommend going for 20.
I ordered the “Beef Hot Pot Set (200B).” It comes with soup and ingredients served in a Moo Fai pot, as mentioned earlier. The ingredients included stewed beef, various beef offal, and morning glory. The Moo Fai pot has a hollow central chimney where charcoal is placed. The ingredients were well-cooked, so the charcoal seemed more for show. However, when the charcoal started to die down after some time, they brought fresh charcoal to replenish it.
After finishing the ingredients in the hot pot set, we added “Additional dishes.” We ordered items like “stewed beef,” “large intestine,” and “tripe.” For the beef hot pot, each dish was 60B. Whether the offal is sourced from Khlong Toei Market or meticulously prepared, I can’t say for sure, but there was no unpleasant smell or off-flavor whatsoever.
After the meal, we paid using the “kaiten-zushi” (conveyor belt sushi) style of billing. We ate until we were full and finished with “Sen Mee (10B)” and “Bamee (15B).” For four men, the total came to around 900B. Considering the satisfaction, this price is very reasonable. The cost performance is outstanding!
In addition to beef, they also offer pork. The hot pot set is 180B, and additional ingredients are 50B. I’d like to try that next time.

Heng Chun Seng Recommendation Score
To provide a useful reference, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog’s rating system. For Heng Chun Seng, the Thai-style hot pot specialty restaurant near Khlong Toei Market and MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre Station, I would personally rate it around a 3.7 on the Tabelog scale (well-regarded).
The delicious Thai-style hot pot that pairs perfectly with beer, along with the affordable prices and excellent cost performance, are significant positives. On the other hand, as it’s a Thai eatery, there are a few hurdles to overcome. However, once you’ve visited with someone experienced, subsequent visits should be much smoother.
Conclusion
Heng Chun Seng, the Thai-style hot pot specialty restaurant near Khlong Toei Market, is highly recommended for those who love offal and hot pot. The generous servings of offal in the hot pot are a fantastic match for beer!
