Introduction

I recently visited the Japanese bakery and cake shop “Custard Nakamura,” located about a 4-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the Japanese bakery and cake shop “Custard Nakamura” in Phrom Phong

Custard Nakamura is located on Sukhumvit Soi 33/1, approximately a 4-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. It’s on the same street as “Fuji Super 1,” a familiar landmark for many Japanese residents in Bangkok.

With over 30 years of history, Custard Nakamura is a Japanese bakery that also offers cakes. The retro storefront, designed with a motif of old wood, stands out distinctly on Soi 33/1. It’s quite a well-known establishment, so many of you may have already heard of it.

Menu at “Custard Nakamura” (Photos, Prices, Review)

Custard Nakamura offers a wide array of savory breads. The shop is small, and it can get crowded, so I couldn’t take many photos. However, upon entering, you’ll see savory breads filling the space! Towards the back, you’ll find cakes and cream-based sweets. There is no dine-in area, so all items are for takeout.

I tried the “Menchi Katsu Sandwich (49 THB)”. It featured a very generously sized menchi katsu (deep-fried minced meat cutlet) sandwiched between soft bread. The patty was packed with meat and seasoned with pepper, making it incredibly delicious. For the portion size and price, it’s a great value.

The “Banana Cake (35 THB)” was also delightful, with a good balance of banana and vanilla flavors. The cream-based sweets like the “Vanilla Roll (50 THB)” and “Mini Cream Puffs (43 THB)” were also excellent.

Despite visiting, I couldn’t find any items specifically related to “custard,” so the reason behind the name “Custard Nakamura” remains a mystery to me. Since they offer delicious savory breads at affordable prices, I plan to visit again.

Recommended Rating for “Custard Nakamura”

To provide a useful reference, I’ll assign a score following the style of Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). I personally feel that “Custard Nakamura,” the bakery and cake shop in Phrom Phong, would be equivalent to a 3.5 on Tabelog, so I’ll note that down.

Conclusion

The Japanese bakery and cake shop “Custard Nakamura” in Phrom Phong is recommended for daily visits by bread lovers, offering a wide variety of savory breads at affordable prices! It’s definitely a place to stop by when you’re shopping at Fuji Super!
