Introduction

I recently visited the ramen izakaya “Ichikara” located about a 1-minute walk from BTS Phra Khanong station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the ramen izakaya “Ichikara” in Phra Khanong

The ramen izakaya “Ichikara” is located just off Sukhumvit Road, down a small alley about a 1-minute walk from BTS Phra Khanong station. You can find it by turning into the alley to your right immediately after exiting Phra Khanong station’s Exit 1.

Ichikara also has a branch in Thonglor, but it’s closed during weekday afternoons. The Phra Khanong branch offers a happy hour from 1 PM to 5 PM on weekdays, making it a great spot for some daytime drinks.

The interior of Ichikara has a feel reminiscent of a Japanese diner. It has about 10 tables, a counter for solo diners facing the outside, a TV playing, and a tatami seating area. It offers a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.

Ichikara Menu (Photos, Prices, Review)

To start, I enjoyed an “Ichikara Highball” for 39 THB during happy hour. That’s cheap! As far as I know, it might be the cheapest highball in Bangkok. The draft beer was 59 THB. There were many appetizer options, but considering the Jiro-style ramen I was about to order, I just had the highball.

With anticipation, I ordered the “Ichikara Sta-Man Marutoku Jiro Ramen” for 299 THB, which was marked with an “Ichikara Recommended” stamp on the menu as the first item. It arrived about 10 minutes later. The portion size was about 1.5 times a standard Jiro-style ramen. The regular “Marutoku Jiro Ramen” is 279 THB, but the “Ichikara Sta-Man Marutoku Jiro Ramen” adds a variety of punchy ingredients. Instead of pork slices, it had generous chunks of pork belly, along with added onions, chives, and fried tempura bits.

The soup was slightly emulsified and served at a very high temperature. I opted for the free garlic and back fat toppings. After tasting… it was a very hearty & powerful Jiro-style ramen. Delicious! With the abundance of toppings, it also pairs well with a highball as a snack. Although I initially thought 300 THB was a bit pricey, the taste was excellent.

From happy hour drinks and appetizers to the〆 ramen, you can have a complete experience at Ichikara.

Although I’m reviewing this as a daytime drinking spot, Ichikara also seems like a good option for weekday lunches. Various set meals are available starting from 179 THB.

Ichikara’s Recommendation Level

To be helpful, I’ll assign a score based on Tabelog’s scale. For the ramen izakaya “Ichikara” in Phra Khanong, I personally estimate it to be around a 3.3 on the Tabelog scale. I’ll leave this note here.

Conclusion

The ramen izakaya “Ichikara” in Phra Khanong is a fantastic spot for enjoying happy hour and daytime drinks with a wide selection of appetizers. With ramen available for a satisfying end to your meal, it’s an irresistible place for serious drinkers in a relaxed atmosphere!
