Introduction

I recently visited the ramen izakaya “Hakata Uma Uma” located about a 9-minute walk from BTS Asoke Station, and I’d like to share my review.

About the Ramen Izakaya “Hakata Uma Uma” in Asoke

Hakata Uma Uma is a ramen izakaya situated approximately a 9-minute walk from BTS Asoke Station, along Sukhumvit Soi 23.

Hakata Uma Uma has two locations in Fukuoka, one in Tokyo, three in Bangkok, Thailand, and two in Manila, Philippines. In Bangkok, besides Asoke, you can also find them in Phrom Phong and at CentralWorld.

Hakata Uma Uma is said to inherit the taste of “Sanmaji,” a renowned restaurant considered the origin of Hakata ramen. The interior is dimly lit, creating a slightly stylish atmosphere, reminiscent of a Japanese Gyukaku restaurant.

Menu at “Hakata Uma Uma” (Photos, Prices, Review)

I visited for dinner on this occasion. In addition to ramen, they offer a wide variety of izakaya-style dishes.

There was a “Dab-set” (drinking set) that included a draft beer plus one appetizer, so I decided to order a few items. A medium Singha draft beer is 100B, so considering the appetizers range from 60-90B, it felt like a good deal. I ordered the “Singha Draft Beer + Gyoza Set (160B),” “Singha Draft Beer + Fried Chicken Wings Set (160B),” and “Singha Draft Beer + Chicken Skin Set (190B).” Both the gyoza, fried chicken, and chicken skin paired well with the beer.

The “Assorted Skewers (5 pieces) for 270B” and the “Daikon Salad Big (180B)” were both perfectly acceptable, as was the “Uma Uma Ramen White (220B)” for a finishing touch. Personally, I felt a little something extra could elevate them, but they were good.

They also had various other appetizers, fried items, motsunabe (offal hot pot), and single dishes. The availability of course menus starting from 450B and an all-you-can-drink option for 650B is also a great plus.

Recommendation Score for “Hakata Uma Uma”

To provide a helpful reference, I’ll assign a score mirroring the scale used on Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the Hakata ramen izakaya “Hakata Uma Uma” in Asoke, I personally feel it corresponds to around a 3.1 on the Tabelog scale. I’ll note this down for future reference.

Conclusion

The ramen izakaya “Hakata Uma Uma” in Asoke is recommended for those seeking a Japanese izakaya experience in Bangkok! Its mild flavors make it a great option for families with children, too!
