Introduction

I recently visited the tsukemen ramen restaurant “Fujiyama 55” located about a 12-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station, and I’m here to share my review.

About the Tsukemen Ramen Restaurant “Fujiyama 55” in Phrom Phong

The tsukemen ramen restaurant “Fujiyama 55” is located approximately a 12-minute walk from BTS Phrom Phong station. To get there, head north along Sukhumvit Soi 39 from BTS Phrom Phong station; the restaurant is on the ground floor of the Bio House apartment building, on your left. A Starbucks is also located on the same floor of Bio House, which serves as a good landmark.

Fujiyama 55 is a tsukemen and ramen restaurant that originated in Nagoya. It boasts over 50 stores in Japan and has 9 branches in Bangkok. Besides Phrom Phong, Fujiyama 55 has locations in Ekkamai, Phra Khanong, Rachapruk, San Chao Mae Ku, Rayong, Chiang Mai, Nak Niwat, and Saraya.

Fujiyama 55 Menu (Photos, Prices, Review)

Fujiyama 55’s recommended dish is definitely their tsukemen. The “Rich Tsukemen 250B+” is their most standard offering, so I ordered that on my first visit. It arrived in about 10 minutes. The noodles are thick, typical for tsukemen. Ordering a large portion (1.5x noodles) costs an extra 30B, “Tokyo Tower” portion (3x noodles) is +80B, and “Fujiyama” portion (4x noodles) is +120B.

The tonkotsu-gyokai (pork bone and fish) broth is very rich and thick. All the ingredients (chashu pork, menma bamboo shoots, green onions) are already in the soup, topped with fish powder. The thick noodles have a good chew and smooth texture. Phrases like “quite delicious even by Japanese tsukemen standards,” “the broth has a strong pork and seafood flavor,” and “the seafood aroma is wonderful” come to mind. It’s delicious.

Since I ordered the large portion of noodles and the soup was so thick, I was concerned about running out of broth. However, there was more soup than I expected, so it was fine. And, you mustn’t forget the “Cheese Risotto Set +60B” when you eat tsukemen at Fujiyama 55. After finishing the noodles, you add the risotto set (rice, raw egg, cheese) to the remaining broth and simmer it lightly on the tabletop stove. “Delicious!”… The rich tsukemen alone was very tasty, but the cheese risotto was the ultimate finishing touch. I’m almost speechless, but it was a wonderful way to finish the meal.

By the way, the “Everything Included” topping set (120B+) comes with the aforementioned toppings plus a seasoned egg on a separate plate.

On another day, I tried some other ramen dishes. The “Original Mazesoba 230B+” is currently my second recommendation after the rich tsukemen and cheese risotto set. Adding fried onions, white sesame seeds, curry powder, and mayonnaise, then mixing everything thoroughly from the bottom makes it delicious. Long live junk food! In contrast, the “Shoyu Ramen 230B+” was elegant, with a prominent aroma of seaweed. The balance with shiitake mushroom broth and crisp onions was excellent. The “Goro Ramen 230B+” is a Jiro-style ramen, but it seems to be based on the tsukemen broth, giving it a strong sweetness that doesn’t quite resemble Jiro ramen. I wouldn’t recommend it to hardcore Jiro enthusiasts.

Fujiyama 55 Recommendation Score

Hoping this might be helpful, I’ll assign a score following the example of Tabelog (Japan’s top restaurant-review site). For the tsukemen and ramen restaurant “Fujiyama 55” in Phrom Phong, I personally feel it corresponds to a Tabelog score of around 3.5. I’ll make a note of that.

Conclusion

The tsukemen ramen restaurant “Fujiyama 55” in Phrom Phong is a place where you can enjoy arguably the best tsukemen in Bangkok! The cheese risotto finish is incredibly delicious, so please try it!
