Introduction
I recently visited the open-air tented yakiniku restaurant “Hormone Dining” located about a 1-minute walk from BTS Phra Khanong station, and I’m here to share my review.
About the open-air tented yakiniku restaurant “Hormone Dining” in Phra Khanong
About a 1-minute walk from BTS Phra Khanong station, along Sukhumvit Road, you’ll find the shopping mall “Summer Hill.” Summer Hill houses familiar establishments for Japanese residents such as Starbucks, Treasure Factory, and Ebisu Shoten. Hormone Dining has set up its tent along the first-floor outdoor walkway of Summer Hill.
Hormone Dining offers an open and airy outdoor dining experience. Since the tables are close to each other, it creates a lively atmosphere where you can enjoy yourself and mingle with those around you. When I visited, there was a live guitar performance by a musician.
The owner of Hormone Dining is Japanese and reportedly used to manage an izakaya called “Inakappe” in Phrom Phong. They continue to pride themselves on serving “affordable and delicious” food, just as they did then.

Hormone Dining Menu (Photos, Prices, and Reviews)
The first thing that surprised me was the price of a large bottle of LEO/Chang beer at 79 THB. This was apparently an opening special price. I’ve never seen such cheap large beers before! Asahi is priced normally at 98 THB, and Kirin is 120 THB. It’s great to find a place with such affordable beer!
I tried the signature dish, “Hormone” (158 THB). These were *shimacho* (beef rectum) without any pre-seasoning, meant to be grilled over a *shichirin* charcoal grill. They were deliciously chewy and had the authentic taste of hormone, just like in Japan. I didn’t expect to find such good quality hormone in Bangkok, especially at this price point, so it was quite impressive.
Next, I ordered the “Raw Beef Yukke” (199 THB). The cucumber released some moisture, making the flavor slightly diluted. However, when I mentioned this to the staff, they kindly provided extra sauce.
I also tried the “Beef Liver Sashimi” (140 THB). Liver sashimi… it’s been too long! It’s been banned for sale in Japan for 12 years, so this was my first time having it since then. Eating it dipped in salted sesame oil brought back nostalgic memories. It was delicious.

Hormone Dining Recommendation Score
To be helpful, I’ll assign a score similar to Tabelog. For the open-air tented yakiniku restaurant “Hormone Dining” in Phra Khanong, I personally feel it’s equivalent to around a 3.3 on Tabelog, so I’ll note that down.
Conclusion
Hormone Dining, the open-air tented yakiniku restaurant in Phra Khanong, is recommended for those who want to enjoy yakiniku and hormone with a beer in a lively atmosphere. The overall pricing is on the lower side, making it a great value for money.
